Last week while in India, I completely missed the Twentieth anniversary of India's World Cup win. More than the slideshow in rediff about the twentieth year celebs, I liked the one on my hero, The Huryana Hurricane.
It benefits to misspell sometimes. Search for the word 'Naadi Josiam' in Google and the only result it would bring up is a link to my website.
I was thrilled to see from the Webstat provided by my web host (34sp.com) that people have been lead into my site while searching for words like 'Naadi Josiam', 'Kili Josiam' etc. Those words were in one of the guest articles and...... (read the first sentence of this entry!).
Doomsday Conspiracy by Sidney Sheldon was one book that has been eluding my hands for long. I managed to get a copy of that yesterday and now I am in the verge of finishing that. A cool way to pass the weekend.
I had this feeling before and I'm having it again now. In the last 3 months, I haven't been learning anything in work and that is a very bad sign. I am trying hard to update myself in the technical front but am meeting so many roadblocks.
One side of me tells that all I need is just two weeks to pick up what I intend to but the other side keeps my morale down. I am normally an optimistic person and don't get bogged down easily. So, what I need is the right environment to learn, which I would strive to create from now on. Let me see where I am in a month or so.
Recently, we hosted my wedding reception at Hotel New Woodlands, Chennai. It so happened that the actual number of guests outnumbered the aniticipated ones and we had to request the hotel management to cater to the food requirements of the additional guests.
To my surprise, the hotel management insisted that we pay for the food bill of the additional guests in advance despite the fact that we had already settled a fat amount for the originally planned number. I got pissed off when they insisted that the amount be settled in CASH and my folks had to run around in search of ATM. They could have very well accepted Credit/Debit Cards as their restaurants do accept the same. Couldn't believe that such a big hotel would be so inflexible at the crucial moment.
I would NEVER, EVER recommend New Woodlands to anyone in future.
Yesterday my friend from Switzerland told me that the weather there is unusually very hot that the mercury touched a 250 year high recently. Not a good thing to hear, isn't it ?
I got a mail today about the Chennai duo whose aim is to promote tree planting and coincidentally someone else forwarded me an old article about the same duo. They started 'Global Greenways' (earlier, 'Environmental Society of Mandaveli') and have done a commendable job over the years. No wonder why Mandaveli roads are lined up with shady greens. The best thing is they give away free saplings and plant them too taking lot of efforts.
If you are interested in making your neighbourhood greener and would be able to spare some time & effort to water the saplings, you may approach 'Global Greenways' at (+91- 44) 24938368/24937060.
For the first time in years, I didn't check my mails continuously for 4 days. Despite all the precautions, ants have got into our home PC and the HDD has gone for a toss. Sad!
"Udhavum Ullangal" (transalates to 'Helping Minds') is a registered charity organisation in Chennai, helping the orphans & needy. If you could sponsor for a day's meal for the inmates on the day of your choice (be it Wedding Anniversaries, Birthdays or whatever), it would be really helpful for them as well as giving you utmost satisfaction. The place is near my home at Chennai and I checked it out and found them genuine. Check out their website and here is their phone number: 044 22348338 / 22321236. Spread the word among your peers.
Yesterday was my parent's Wedding anniversary. I placed an order with www.chennaibazaar.com to deliver a dozen of Alphonso mangoes. They promptly did it with a nice, little card apt for the occasion. This is the second time I place an order with Chennaibazaar and their service is indeed good. Would recommend it for the NRIs.
Airlines to the European destinations allow only 24 kgs of main baggage. Depending on the airliner, they may tolerate up to 30 kgs. But not beyond. I couldn't understand why this is so, when the American destinations are allowed up to 60 kgs. One has to be really choosy with the things and everytime I pack up my luggage for the flight, I get a bit irritated with the above fact. This time is no exception.
Am leaving for India on a three week vacation and this blog might not get updated as regularly as it used to be. However, I would try to steal sometime for this. Keep visiting!!
I spent the whole of sunday cleaning up the house as my landlord and his agent are coming to inspect the house. Thank goodness, they gave me enough notice. Else, they wouldn't believe its their house. :)
One thing I am worried about this exercise is the huge Indian tricolour I have put up in the hall. Hope they wouldn't mind that.
Being waken up at 4 a.m, particularly after going to bed after 1:30 a.m would no doubt be stressful. Being a net freak, I didn't miss the opportunity to browse. But all the tiredness vanished in a second, when I saw that Anand has blogrolled mine. Thanks Anand! Every man yearns for fame.Atleast, every blogger does! :-)
Have been thinking about this Blogrolling for quite sometime. My current site design won't allow that. That could wait till I complete my site redesign.
Numerology bug bit my parents (perhaps, my grand parents!) and they named me 'Chakkarapani' (Note the second 'k' followed by 'a'). None of the folks who man the official records seem to understand this and they constantly mis-spell my name. Last night, I went through the hard copies of all the official communications sent to me over the past few years and was surprised that my name has been spelt in ways, that would send the permutation experts tizzy. This underlines the need for an effective system of keeping records rather than typing out letters, quoting names from memory. Atleast, the mistakes there would be consistent.
